Welcome to Writing My Words.

Before we begin, we’d simply like to say… thank you for your service.

Every veteran has a story worth telling, and every story deserves the chance to be remembered. We built this place to honor both.

Now, let us honor you the only way we know how… by giving you a place to tell your story.

Welcome. We’re honored you’re here.

How would you like me to address you, Sir? Tell me your rank and branch — you earned it, and I’ll use it. Every visit.

Your story

This is the whole of it. You talk. We listen. However it comes out. There is no right way. There is no wrong way. Your words begin filling the page exactly as you speak them.

Speaking — not typing
“The rain. Nobody tells you about the rain. And Franklin — he was from Alabama. Talked about peaches the whole time…”
THE RAIN, FIRST
Nobody tells you about the rain.

The first friend I made over there was a boy from Alabama named Franklin. He talked about peaches the whole time — peach cobbler, peach trees, a girl back home he swore smelled like peaches…

No typing. No pressure. If your hands don't work the way they used to… it doesn't matter. The microphone is your pen.

Take your time

Some days you’ll write.
Some days you’ll simply sit with a cup of coffee.
Both are perfectly okay.

NO DEADLINES. NO PRESSURE. NO EXPECTATIONS.

When you’re ready… we’ll be ready.
As long as this room is here… so are we.

Your words

Every page is read back to you. If it doesn’t sound like you… we change it. If it isn’t your memory… it doesn’t belong.

That’s me — keep itChange that partTake that out

Anything you want changed… changes. Anything you want removed… goes.

Nothing is finished until you say… “That’s my story.”

Your legacy

And when you say it’s finished… it becomes more than a manuscript. It becomes your story. Your legacy.

Your story. Your words. Sealed as yours alone.

Keep it · share it with your family · or, if you choose, preserve it for generations to come.

If you served our country… you’ll always have a place here. Welcome home.
